I think that DoD and US government recognized internet users as threat. Especially those involved in well lets use politically correct dictionary "offensive security", "active defense" or "penetration testing"... but I do not about socialism as way around censorship I mean look at China, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea... those people live in socialist or communist states and definitely they are not free.
There is Sweden of course but try to tell some swedish people that they are socialists :-)))
Now socialists talk about freedom of speech, social rights etc. But when they come to power it will be nationalization of private property, political persecution and more importantly no freedom at all but dicatorship of proletariate. I hope non trust to red propaganda for its just another propaganda.
Personally I am concerned with these developments because even in here in Europe the EU wants to ban posession of any tool that enables you to gain unautorised access to any network, system or web app. All european pen-testers would become outlaws.
I strongly suggest that the only way forward is civil disobedience. If I do not agree with some law just layed down and I find it unjust. I protest. I do not obey law that I do not agree with. No matter what authority enacted it.
