Hey I was just curious to see what people think about SOPA's chances for passing in Congress. If you do think it will pass, feel free to comment why, and what you think will happen after it does (what will the backlash be). Conversely, if you think it will fail, tell us why. I personally am not sure, because while there is a huge amount of industry opposition,  the supporters have poured massive amounts of money into it to get votes.

SOPA is something with piracy right? well we had that shit in our country, it was called LANVA and of course it failed, after few miserable attempts  to take down the biggest torrent site we have, lol. Of course they quit.

well.. in the Netherlands SOPA is already noticed.
The major ISP's are blocking now piratbay to all users
as a result of SOPA.


ahh well, enough different other ways to get to piratbay..
but.. it's irritating..

I don't think it will pass, mainly because I don't see how SOPA would stop anything. Anyone could set up their own name server, spread around by e-mail how to use the new name server, and call it a good day. Then there truly would be a, "computer underground," once again.  I promise you, nothing will ever stop people from ripping content, SOPA would only temporarily stop the means by which that content is shared. This isn't going to do anything except hurt legitimate e-businesses.

SOPA wont directly affect to many people. What (some/most?)people is afraid of is how far the government will take this. At first its just a handy tool for the entertainment industry, then suddenly it will be a tool for the government to shut down any domain they like, because of "copyright".

I'm not sure... which is to say I don't know what the governments of the world are up to most of the time. Freedom of speech is a joke as is evidenced in how wikileaks get's treated ( especially by government). In Oz they want to introduce the "Internet Black List" but the young urban hipsters who frequent the likes of 4 chan etc will just wireshark (or whatever) that shit.
If it goes in it just means a new internet does it not.
If it doesn't they'll just pour money into another way of stopping freedom.
Anywayz relax, the internetz is ours no old rich politicians are ever gonna be able to change that :-)
