I think it's a good idea, as long as it is optional. That way the people that want to talk about themselves can, and the people that don't want to talk about themselves, don't have to.

Hacking and Security / Re: OSCP
« on: May 08, 2013, 06:48:20 pm »
I have taken the course (haven't passed yet). It's difficult. Not impossible, not hard, just difficult. You're given X amount of days to go through the lab materials provided, try out attacks on a vpn network that OffSec gives you access to, you write a report on what you could break into. Finally, you are given the chance to take a hands-on exam for the actual cert where the goal is to break into 5 different machines of varying difficulty, and write a report on it.

Keep in mind, it is a pen-testing course. It is not a "break into as many computers as you can" course. You have to treat it like it's an actual pen-test, and write reports. Honestly, the most difficult part about it is not getting complacent with it, and just giving up.

Going off of what Factionwars said, yes it is a certification course. You take the course to hopefully pass the exam and get the certification like any other course. No one forces you to do it. And unlike fucking CEH, the lab materials are actually good, and have intellectual value. It's not just a course on how to use metasploit, or sqlmap (although both are mentioned, and shown examples of usage).

The actual vpn lab is no different than any other network with vulnerable stuff on it, other than the OffSec admins throw in a lot of "curve balls" if you will, and you actually have to use your brain to break into most of the machines. It's not just ./exploit <somecomputer>. You may have to do a client-side attack, or break into it with lesser privileges, and escalate, or use ssh tunnels to get into non-routable networks.

There isn't just attack techniques that you have to know in order to pass, you have to know a good amount of forensics too. The entire goal of the final exam is to grab "key files" to get points for breaking into said machines, but the files are well hidden, and not easy to find.

Having only gone through it, I certainly have more respect for anyone that has an OSCP cert than most other certs for this field.

Also, pro-tip for those who don't know...the more certs you have, the more likely you are to negotiate a good salary when you go in for an interview. That is UNIVERSAL for ALL career fields.

Thanks rasenove.

Hope enjoy, learn, share together. By the way, i read things about Dr.M0rph but i don't know what is that yet :)
I am Dr. m0rph. Welcome MrOwl! Please make yourself feel at home. What other interests do you have outside of Math? It's not usual for me to leave my office and welcome visitors as I am very busy, but I had to in your case because I have a question....

MrOwl....how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop!?

Random: Success! We have a math guy now! :D

Anonymity / Re: Tor project
« on: April 22, 2013, 02:40:44 pm »
No they are not, but installed on servers/machines you don't own is. m0rp didn't say that's what he meant in his post, but after all..
@AnarchyAngel, just wanted to clarify and build on what ande said: I did mean creating ssh tunnels/socks proxies on servers you don't own. That's really the only way that method of anonymity becomes effective.

EDIT: I have internet now, but some faggot troll on youtube flagged a political comment I made as "hate speech" and I have no way to appeal it. I won't be able to comment/post videos on youtube for the next two weeks because of it.

FYI, if anyone wants to help me get some vigilante justice his username is Xpico12boX

I find it funny that all of you except for vezzy are judging her on what she looks like, and not by what she's saying. Sure, she is probably exaggerating a little bit, but I have no way to prove it. Sure, one could argue that the Illuminati is a conspiracy theory, because there is no valid proof that the group even exists.

But to not give her the time of day, because of fundamental traits of herself that she has no ability to change is a little harsh, don't you think? What all of you choose to believe is your choice, and I have no intention on trying to "force" or "dupe" any of you into changing those beliefs. I believe there is a crowd (not an organization) of insanely rich people that are trying to drive the world into the ground, out of some twisted sense of joy.

Our culture, as hackers, is changing...and if any of you haven't noticed it is changing for the worse. I'm just going to drop a quote, and hope that some of you will take the time to think of reasonable, logical, arguments for why she may be wrong, instead of belittling what she has to say because of what she looks like.

Quote
We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

EDIT/TL;DR: Don't mistake this for a political-correctness rant, because I could give a flying f*ck what words you guys want to use. I'm simply saying, I think it's wrong to judge what people have to say based on what they look like.

Nope. That's pretty much it.
It's all good dawg. I be on IRC in a few. :P

So, do you have anything meaningful to contribute to this post?

Just FYI, Tila Tequila is one of the hottest babes in the world. I don't want to get all crazy fanboy on you guys, but yeah....lol. She even goes so far as to call out Alex Jones on his bullshit. What do you guys think about all of this?

I'm not going to try and coerce you guys into believing her, but I've always felt she has been down to earth, and sincere. I don't feel any different about this video, and I'm glad she's speaking out.

I watch Eli's video on the introduction of Hacking so I know what it is, I just don't know how to do it.
Do you mean elithecomputerguy on youtube? His video's are OK, but they are full of, "cookie cutter," intro material. None of the material he posts has any relevance on their overall respective topics. Communities like this are where you can discover for yourself the true nature of the culture, and what we do.

Now, proceed to my office, and spread your cheeks. :P

it's symbian series 60v3. so I guess it's not possible to root it, as it is only possible in android based platform
 :(
You're in luck! I figured out a way to attack the police IP! This method of attack is called the, "DoS" attack, or "Denial of Service," attack. Copy and paste this code into notepad:
Code: [Select]
@echo off
color 0a
:polisen.se
start "Down with the PIGS!!!"
goto polisen.se
Now here's the tricky part. In order for this to work, you need to do "Save as..." from FILE in notepad as this:
File name: dosattack.bat
Save as type: All Files

Then all you need to do is double-click your new DOS program, and the police will never be able to use the internet again. Let us know how it works out!

well gr33n, a lot of the "lessons" on webgoat are pretty old, but I mean if you still want to do it for the sake of learning it's not a bad choice. I think you might get more out of something like DVWA (damn vulnerable web app), or mutillidae. Here's some links :P

General discussion / Re: Certs! Your ticket past HR
« on: March 04, 2013, 10:30:28 pm »
I realize this is probably a dumbass question but there are so many certificates out there and I've heard of CCNP and CCIE as well as CCNA and CCENT in regards to Cisco but I don't know what these are.
CCENT is one test out of two for CCNA, unless if you want to take the CCNA mega-test.
CCNP is the level of certification above CCNA, yet lower than CCIE.
CCIE is the top level of Cisco networking certifications, unless if you plan on working for Cisco (then you can still go higher yet).

You can technically try to test for any CCIE-level certification at any time, without any prerequisites (but it's extremely expensive, and extremely difficult).

It's a really sad day when you are more qualified than your boss. -_-

+1 I always enjoy seeing people discover the Manifesto. How did it make you feel Mordred? I first read it when I was 16 (it's been so long since then, but it feels like it was just yesterday :/ ). My whole dynamic on life changed after I read it. It has, without a doubt, been one of the most influential pieces of literature in my life.

I absolutely love seeing that simulation of a black hole's event horizon! It's so mesmerizing, and gets me excited to try and discover things that are yet unknown!
