The ones that I have heard of lay down one layer of material at a time to build a 3d item. It draws from a reservoir of resin powder.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_printing Technology still needs some work though, people keep acting like this is going to be widespread in the next few years, that is wishful thinking.

that is epic shit right there :D
Do you need some kind of a special picture or something for it to print? I don't think it can create a 3D model of plain picture...

3d prints work off of 3d models.

There are a few techniques to do this. One like above uses layers of melted plastic, like normal printing but with an added demention.
The second way is to use a special resin liquid and high intensity, focused UV light to harden the resin within itself.

The first way is by far the most popular and yields the highest resolution. There is an entire community based around 3d printing and a moment for open source hardware(like coat hangers, parts, cases, cups, dishes, etc.).

It isn't too hard to make a 3d printer either. RepRap and a few other DIY printers along with blue prints and schematics are available. Go to hackaday.com and search 3d printers. There are hundreds, that won't cost an arm and a leg to make or buy. People also offer print jobs, send them your 3d models and they'll mail you the print.

I am very envoys though that you have access to production grade printers though.

Well 3D printers can make things from pictures.. but there are some limitation.

And you have to give input likie matirial from which it can make things real. i have documentry on it.. ill upload it later.

And one more thing is that it can make models of certain size by using plastic. and it can not create and working 3d model.

Concept is like that you tell him thati want this model by giving it 3d input design and it will measure all the dimensions and create 3d object from plastic.
